Mental
Tools of Hermeneutics
Hermeneutics in General, Classic Mental Tools –
The Quintalateral, New and
Daring Tools to Consider
Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation and explanation;
hermeneutical science is typically applied to religious texts to find objective
(or subjective) meaning. But
Hermeneutical principles may be applied to any
text – or – any situation – with
the expectation of more objective understanding.
The general purpose of
hermeneutics in the group is so all
who participate will understand and therefore believe alike. The doctrines and dogmas of denominational
groups depend on the interpreters of Scripture to keep them together. Different sets of hermeneutic principles are
behind the differences in religious groups that depend on biblical literature
for insight. (1) The
Second (or New) Testament must be interpreted through the First (or Old)
Testament. (2) The
First (or Old) Testament must be interpreted through the Second (or New)
Testament. (3) The
First and Second Testaments have equal weight in interpreting a passage.
I wonder if the reader can
think through these three methods – all of which are used today. Studies on the Resurrection of the Dead:Open your Mind to the Scriptural Life

The Significance of Baptism: A Lost Art of Forgiveness
We have found mikvaot (plural for mikveh) dating back to the first century A.D. and have even found one such ritual bath at Masada; a fortress built on a plateau, a thousand feet up in the dry desert region near the Dead Sea. The ritual baths are, usually, taken in moving water. Only dry places, like Qumran and Masada, which have no access to moving or standing natural water, have these man-made baths.
The Pharisees and I: A Devotional Approach to Scripture
I stood there looking at the pastors and I felt a sense of bitter shame. Maybe it was guilt, I do not know. I had stood by this crowd far too long. I had watched my people suffer beneath the horrible, overly religious traditions. I have seen them turn to find joy in foreign places: now there was no Elohim, there was only requirement; now there was no joy, people turned to stupid toys to soothe their souls. They had forgotten Elohim. Why talk about Elohim when He has turned His back on us?

The belief that modesty is a must for early Christianity is universally recognized by most, if not all, biblical scholars. The topic of modesty has been talked about by everyone from Paul to Clement to Tertullian to Commodianus to Cyprian. All said the same basic thing. So, in conclusion, early Christianity reserved make-up, jewelry, dyeing of the hair and what not all to those who were “outside” of the church. Even though such language comes across as harsh today, it is what Christianity taught for centuries.

What does the strange logo over the entrance mean?
Is it Vonage? Toyota? No. But just let me show you.
The meaning will not be understood by most lay people who have but a passing interest in the "Jesus Family Tomb" and its the logo. However, those who are familiar with the history of the Righteous Ones (tzadikim) will immediately see the points I'm making and understand the meaning of this secret sign. First, the carat sign (^) indicates the . . . .
King David's Tomb complex and Last Supper Room on Mount Zion are important religious, historical sites, which draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. This site was the center of the Nazorean movement in the first century, also featuring the room in which the last supper was received as well as the prayer of the 120 on the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost). Despite this, site was neglected for many years, but has recently been restored to some extent.
Amos 9:11-12. "In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old; that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the tribes who are called by my name," says YHWH who does this. (Cf. Acts 15:16,17)
It is to this site on Mount Zion that the Master is to return. Why isn't it ours?
I know a mystery.
I have read the sky tablets.
I have seen the sacred books.
I found written therein an inscription about the ones
For whom all goodness, joy, and admiration is prepared;
Written down for the ruachim of those who died in obedience.
Manifold good will be given YOU in exchange for your work;
Your fate is abundantly beyond that of any living soul.
In a blazing light, I will bring forth
Those who love My Sa cred Name.
I will seat them upon sky-thrones.
There will they dazzle timelessly,
For
YHWH
judged them obedient.
- 1 Enoch 103:2,3; 1 Enoch 108:13
I have revealed your name
to those
whom you took from the world to give me.
Keep those you have given me true to your name
so that they may be one like us.
Among ancient Egyptian designations for types of foreign peoples in the New Kingdom Period, the term Shasu occurs fairly frequently. It is generally accepted that the term Shasu means nomads or Bedouin people, referring primarily to the nomadic or semi-nomadic peoples of Syria-Palestine. There are two significant hieroglyphic references in New Kingdom Period texts to an area called “the land of the Shasu of Yahweh.”1 Except for the Old Testament, these are the oldest references found in any ancient texts to the God Yahweh. The purpose of this paper is to study these two references and assess their possible importance in dating the Exodus story.

Where is the Damascus of the Zadokites and Quramran 'Essenes'?
A very personal look into not only the Dead Sea Scrolls community, but into the head of the Teacher of Righteousness, who writes. As for me, if' I stumble, Elohim's loving-kindness forever will save me. If through sin of the flesh I fall, my justification will be by the righteousness of Elohim that endures for all time. Though my affliction breaks out, He will draw my soul back from the Pit, and firm my steps on the way. Through His love He has brought me near; by His loving-kindness will He provide my justification. By His righteous truth has He justified me; and through His exceeding goodness will He atone for all my sins. By His righteousness will He cleanse me of human defilement and the sin of humankind — to the end that I praise Elohim for His righteousness, the Most High for His Shekinah.
Between the time of the final redaction of 1 Peter and Titus, maybe 25 – 40 years, assuming that the far-flung Assemblies of Yahweh were still in some form of doctrinal unity, the Appointed Elder, who possessed numerous administrative skills, took the place of the Anointed Elder, whose primary qualification was not administration, but spirituality and moral. The Presiding Elder of the Titus text, with pomps, titles, and political aptitude, replaced the Providing Elder, of 1 Peter, with his humility, spiritual insight, and servile motivation.
Clement was the disciple of Peter (Kefa) and his successor. (Clement’s journal, in which Peter’s travels is the subject, can be found at www.apostolia.us) Traditionally known as The Second Letter of Clement to the Corinthians, this text is neither a letter nor necessarily by Clement. It is a sermon on the subject of the believer’s walk of righteousness, and the earliest to use New Testament (or proto-New Testament) citations as though they were Scripture. In addition, there are citations from works that did not make the cut of the canonical rule, including (perhaps) The Gospel of Thomas and The Gospel of the Egyptians. This sermon is dated by scholars to the late 1st century; some date it as early as 70 AD, since one of the manuscripts was bound in a codex with Clement to the Corinthians, The Epistle of Barnabas, and The Teaching of the Twelve (Didaché).
In 1883, an antiquities dealer in Jerusalem named M. W. Shapira decided to sell an ancient manuscript of the Book of Deuteronomy that he believed to be extremely valuable. But when he sent the manuscript to biblical scholars, they all agreed it was a forgery. Humiliated, Shapira committed suicide in 1884. The following year, the manuscript sold at auction (for much less than Shapira hoped to get for it), and promptly disappeared. But comparisons of the Dead Sea Scrolls to descriptions in stories of Shapira’s manuscript have led scholars to believe that Shapira’s Deuteronomy was quite probably authentic—and thus worth untold millions. That just goes to show you: Never, ever kill yourself. (mentalfloss.com)
Manuscript and Audio: "He took care of them and caused to grow from Israel and from Aaron a root of planting to inherit his land and to grow fat on the good produce of His soil. They considered their iniquity and they knew that they were guilty men, and had been like the blind and like those groping for the way twenty years. But Elohim considered their deeds, that they had sought Him with a whole heart. So He raised up for them a teacher of righteousness to guide them in the way of His heart."

1) Read or listen to "Pocket of Prune Pits," a relevant Atonement message
1) Remember that it begins at sundown tonight. At that time, you may recite Psalm 51 as a prayer and begin your nightly fast a little early.
2)
You may fast as you will during the next 24 hours. Isaiah 58 is
particularly useful for fasting.
3) You must do no laborious work if you can possibly help it. If
you must work, do so in an attitude of serving Yahweh as well as the
boss.
4) You may meditate on Yahshua’s atonement, particularly his death on the execution stake for your sins.
5) Here are Scriptures you may use in your meditation: The four chapters of Jonah; Leviticus 23:27-32; Isaiah 53,57,58; Luke 23 or Matthew 27; Romans 5; Revelation 6:10-17.
6) Atonement ends at sundown. You might recite then Revelation 4:11: “Worthy art thou, our sovereign and god, to receive glory and honor and power, for thou didst create all things, and by thy will they existed and were created.”

Shalomé was the daughter of Mary and sister of Yahshua of Nazareth. She is mentioned several times in the New Testament Scriptures as a witness to the crucifixion. The Egyptian Scriptures portray her as a person much more important than a mere onlooker. In them, she is a fervent disciple who harbors and nurtures her brother as she learns the Way of the True Worshipper. To this same Shalomé tradition has attributed forty-one songs composed in the Aramaic language of the holy family. Her spiritual insight has much in common with that of the Beloved Disciple and the Teacher of Righteousness. Yet Shalomé has more to offer than a religious comparison of darkness and light. Her songs comprise a young woman’s unique and often mystical vision of the ‘divine feminine,’ love both mundane and ethereal, and hope that reaches far beyond the boundaries of earth and sky.

There’s never been a century like the 20th. At its beginning, the 20th was hailed as “the Christian Century” – the century in which biblical values would surely penetrate the political establishments of the world, and through reasoned conversation, all war might cease; that peace would arise through the efforts of dedicated individuals, and that all powers might conscientiously decide to “beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: that nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” (Isaiah 2:4,5).
"But despite all good intentions, it was the bloodiest of the nineteen previous centuries put together. All the nations rose up for world war that yet continues in our day."

RABBI BARRY LEFF
Brotherly Love? Rabbi Barry Leff: The more we know about each other’s religions, the more progress we can make toward peace. For one thing, we can learn use religion as a way to come together, instead of as a way to sow hatred. For the truth is, if you look at the three Abrahamic faiths, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Judaism and Islam are very similar – Christianity is the “odd man out” with the greatest variation from the other two. So to further that goal, we’re not only going to study some Torah – we’re going to study some Koran. Go there.
Shavuot & the Old Testament / Tanakh:
Pentecost / Shavuot Training Session - a 40-minute learning experience based on Exodus 24:12 Yahweh said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the stone tablets, the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction."
Pentecost / Shavuot Home Service - You can worship at home or in your small group. Two loaves of bread are required for the Agape / Ahava Meal. Includes music downloads.

The Traditions of Pentecost - This is a Methodist message about some of the church traditions that surround the celebration of Pentecost, the only Feast of Yahweh that Christians observe.
Eight Days to Wait - Remember
that the last thing he told his people before he beamed up was to
“wait!” “Wait around without me until the Holy Spirit comes.” But
how long a wait would that be? They’d already waited forty days!

PREDESTINATION CALMLY CONSIDERED
By John Wesley
Brethren, would ye lie for the cause of God? I am persuaded ye would not. Think then that as ye are, so am I: I speak the truth, before God my Judge; not of those who were trained up therein, but of those who were lately brought over to your opinion. Many of these have I known; but I have not known one in ten of all that number, in whom it did not speedily work some of the above-named effects, according to the state of soul they were then in. And one only have I known among them all, after the closest and most impartial observation, who did not evidently show, within one year, that his heart was changed, not for the better, but for the worse. 90. I know indeed, ye cannot easily believe this. But whether ye believe it or no, you believe, as well as I, that without holiness no man shall see the Lord. May we not then, at least, join in this, — in declaring the nature of inward holiness, and testifying to all the necessity of it? May we not all thus far join in tearing away the broken reeds wherein so many rest, without either inward or outward holiness, and which they idly trust; will supply its place? As far as is possible, let us join in destroying the works of the devil, and in setting up the kingdom of God upon earth, in promoting righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Of whatever opinion or denomination we are, we must serve either God or the devil. If we serve God, our agreement is far greater than our difference. Therefore, as far as may be, setting aside that difference, let us unite in destroying the works of the devil, in bringing all we can from the power of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. And let us assist each other to value more and more the glorious grace whereby we stand, and daily to grow in that grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A Roman
Catholic Apologetic
for the Ten Commandments
Father John J. Pasquini’s Ecce Fides: Pillar of Truth (197ff. 2007) contains essays in Roman Catholic apologetics. (From the Greek απολογία, "speaking in defense" is the discipline of defending a religious position through the systematic use of reason. Pasquini defends many Catholic doctrines, including those on the immortal soul, everlasting torment, indulgences, relation to other churches, heretics, pro-life, relics, popes and inquisitions. The following passage provides us with Roman Catholic moral imperatives, and specifically the meaning of the Ten Commandments. Ecce fides is Latin for Behold Faith!
Of the 22 times in the Bible where Paul is referred to as an "apostle", only twice is he referred to as an apostle by someone other than himself! These two instances came from the same person. Not from Yahshua, or any of the original apostles, but from Paul's close traveling companion and personal press secretary Luke. Both accounts are found in Luke's record of the Acts of the Apostles, (chapter 14:4,14). Here Paul is referred to as an apostle along with Barnabas. By this time in the story, Luke would have been very accustomed to Paul calling himself an apostle, and he would no doubt have been in agreement with Paul's assessment of himself. By these statistics alone, it is evident that Paul is by far his own biggest fan... and his side kick Luke was his number two fan. This leaves no one else anywhere in the Bible going on record recognizing his apostleship!
My soul bragged on itself like Little Jack Horner, "What a good boy am I. I've heard from Yahweh! And how compassionate and wonderful I’ve become tonight." About this time, the dog began to howl again and the Ruach haQodesh whispered one last thing, "Yes, Jack, you have become compassionate enough to pray. But now -- Go! -- go lie with the dog."
Why does Yahshua say he came not to bring peace but a sword into our homes? We get the idea that if we are good Christians or good Torah Observers, we should inherently have peace in our families, households and properties. But it appears likely that though Yahshua was certainly "a good Christian," he had a lousy home life, and undoubtedly suffered greatly under the burden of broken relationships because of who he was and what he came to do.
